What is the difference between IELTS and TOEFL?

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) are two of the most widely-accepted tests to certify your English proficiency. They both prepare students to pursue their academic goals in universities and higher learning institutions globally, where English is the medium of instruction. The main difference between IELTS and TOEFL is the countries from which they originate. IELTS is a UK-based exam, while TOEFL is an American-based one. Both assess non-native students’ ability to perform the four main components of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

EMS prides itself in offering students small, personalized classes, no matter what levels they are studying at. Our classes never exceed more than 10 students per class. This enables instructors to give each student individual attention and encourage full participation in class from everyone.

When do classes start?

The timetable varies every month due to the number of public holidays that fall within each month. The EMS management allows students to take a few off days, but this needs to be planned and agreed beforehand.

  1. Provide us with your valid documents (please refer to the next question for types of documents required).
  2. We send you a letter of acceptance of your place at EMS within 5 working days.
  3. We send the documents to the Ministry of Education (MOE) for approval. This will take around 2-3 weeks to process.
  4. Once the approval from the MOE comes through, we proceed with visa application with the Immigration Department. This takes another 2-3 weeks to process.

Once both approvals from the MOE and the Immigration Department are received, EMS will post the relevant documents to you.

What are the documents required for visa applications?

Please SEND ALL of the following documents:

  1. One (1) photocopy of applicant’s passport. Send ALL PAGES including blank pages.

How can I apply/what is the fastest way to apply?

You can come into the center with all your relevant documents or apply online.

Can I reserve a place in advance?

Yes, you can! Please fill-in the enrolment form or apply online and along with it, please send us the first month’s tuition fees.

Is there a registration cut off day?

Yes, there is. Usually the first week of the new term is the last date a student can enrol for that particular term.

Do you accept credit card payments?

We are sorry that we cannot accept credit card payments currently.

Can I pay tuition fees monthly or do you require full payment in advance?

For administrative reasons and to reserve your place on the course, we require that advance payments be made in full. Unfortunately, we do not have a policy of allowing monthly payments.

Will EMS give me a discount if I join a class later?

EMS does not have a policy of offering discounted fees. We require students to join the class they have registered for on the start date. We want you to get the most of your studies – coming late will result in you missing out on the lessons and this will impact on your exams.
